ROADS TO RUIN

The steel golem was quite remarkable, the workmanship of absolutely perfect quality. The demonic looking lizard slid his hand along the metallic face. “I want this thing active NOW! My vengeance must not be stopped… the demon must pay…”
The golem’s eyes sparked to life and it said nothing.

“So Lece why are you so sad?” Hiei asked, having just owned Darkkickk at Halo 2.
Lece’s head snapped up and she put on a rather fake smile, “Nothing I’m fine.”
Hiei looked at her, then back to the game shaking his head. Chamely came in carrying some parts, “Hey have you seen Zion? He asked me to pick these up.”
“He’s been in the hangar all day.”
Chamely walks out of the room with the parts passing Kenshin and Vash in the hallway. Kenshin walks over to Lece, “I am sorry but we found no trace of your parents.”
Vash sits down beside her, “You do realize how long it has been since you last saw them don’t you?”
Lece’s eyes filled with tears, “So are you just going to give up!?”
“No that’s not what we meant… we merely wanted to tell you-”
“What? That I should give up? If you won’t do anything then I will!”
Kara calls down from the balcony, “What will that prove?”
“WHAT DID YOU SAY!?”
She jumps down beside Lece, “I asked what will that prove?”
Lece stares at her, her eyes full of anger. After an uneasy moment she runs off. Vash stares at Kara, “What gives you the right?”
“Look at it like this: If she runs off she will most likely get herself killed, after all a Dreamfall is coming.”
“What?”
“Can’t you feel it? The planet itself is crying out in pain.”
Vash looks at his arm, “So that is the feeling I’ve been getting. That’s what a Dreamfall is.”
“Yes… and the worst thing is… everyone on this planet is in worse danger. You might collapse from the pain it might bring, but most on the surface fall into Gates and disappear forever.”

Zion was beginning to power up the onboard OS. “Okay… System Check Initiated.”
Chamely comes into the room carrying the parts, “Zion! Got your order here!”
The system blips to life, “Welcome to Aturai Corp.’s mech OS would you like to register?”
“Shut up.” Zion kills the program and jumps down from the cockpit, “Hey Chamely, put them over by the weapon systems.”
Shippo jumps into the cockpit and begins to tinker with the OS, “Welcome to Aturai Corp.’s mech OS would you like to register?”
“Shippo! What are you doing?!”
The kitsune demon shouts down to him, “This program is old. I’m installing a newer one.” Hammering sounds emerge from the cockpit, “Dang piece of poop! Eject the disk!” The floppy shoots out of the drive and across the hangar. “Got it!”
“You better not mess it up!”
“I won’t!”
Chamely looks at the weapons in front of her, “Are these your own creations?”
Zion smiles, “Yep… Every single one.”
“What about the countermeasures?”
“Countermeasures?”
Chamely just stares at him, “I guess you’ll just have to use the standard then.” She points out two large missle pods that go on the mech’s shoulders.
“The heck I’m putting those on!”
“You have to or the clan won’t let you pilot your mech.”
“Oh come on!”

Kara had a very bad feeling about today. Everything was fine but there was something underneath the air. She projects her mind to everyone, trying to check that everything is okay she finally stops with Chris sees nothing wrong at all.
And that’s where the problem lies.
A golem comes up behind her, as if to attempt to knock her out. Just before it can do this Kara places the blades of her claws against his metallic neck with blinding speed.
“Wait! Don’t hurt him!” Xorea runs out onto the sky deck. “About time I caught up with you!”
Kara is surprised as she puts them away, “You know this thing?”
“I am not a thing, I am Mecha Jeffron.” The mechanical lizard says.
“Cool, Huh?”
“Depends on your vision of cool.” Kara taps the metal while looking into the V shaped scanner.
Xorea lets out a sigh, “I wish the prototype wasn’t stolen. It was almost ready to be completed…” The demon walks off, Mecha Jeffron silently following her.

Lece had already jumped off the ship, leaving a recording in her room. That would stall them for a while, heck who was she kidding it had already been a week since they last saw her. As she was thinking this she could have sworn she heard a tree branch snap.

D***, how could he be so careless. Chris slammed his fist down on the recording, shattering it. He should have seen it coming.
They quickly loaded all the mechs for recon, even Zion’s. “What are you doing?!”
Shippo snapped around to look up at him, “Lece’s gone and we’re upgrading your mech with level 5 recon equipment. You won’t lose any armor or weapons.”
Everyone quickly jumped into their craft, leaving a mere skeleton crew to guard. “Okay people we split up at the ruins, she won’t have done far, even though it has been a week. In that region is all that is left of the old earth, and there we are picking up a huge amount of Gate activity. Be alert and ready.”
The mechs drop like bricks onto the snow covered ground. They head east, covering more ground in a few seconds than Lece had in an hour. Zion shouted over the comm. link, “I’ve got something to the south… Make that two things! one cloaked and large, the other is our Lece!”
All of them move out into the area of forest and jump out of their mechs. Zion, Chris, Kara, Chamely, Xorea, and Darkkick go to look for Lece. Lacona, Rave, and Yugi are ordered back to the ship.
“No buts! You guys aren’t very experienced, and we have no idea what this thing is.”
The three let out a sigh, “Fine…”

Mecha Justa could sense that she was nearing his trap. The demon would die…
Lece came under the tree he was in, “Hello? Is anyone out there?”
The robot jumped down and landed right on her, knocking her unconscious. “Only human…”
Chris came running straight at him and blasted him backwards. “Okay now you’ve ticked me off!”
